The 2030 Self-Driving Car theory!!

Automakers are spending billions of dollars to develop autonomous vehicles, but are they making the right bet? According to McKinsey’s Kersten Heineke and Philipp Kampshoff, the autonomous vehicle market in the United States could be worth nearly $800 billion in 2030.

Automakers are investing heavily in AV technology
Automakers are investing heavily in AV technology, including artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). AVs will allow vehicles to travel autonomously. But it will take a long time before we see fully autonomous vehicles on our roadways. The potential benefits of fully autonomous vehicles are tremendous, but there are also many challenges.

While fully autonomous vehicles will remain an enticing prospect, their high cost of development will force the market toward mobility services. Even if fully autonomous cars do become available, most consumers will not be able to afford them. However, they might be able to afford to use autonomous taxis and bus services, which could run around the clock without human drivers. Some companies are already working on developing ‘robot axis’ and trialing these services in China.

EV sales set another record globally
EV sales continue to climb, with manufacturers making strategic commitments to electric vehicles. Many are launching new models and raising production targets. However, the current COVID-19 law could impede these efforts, diverting cash from EV development and investment to more pressing needs. Still, EVs are poised to become a paradigm shift in the automobile industry over the next decade

China’s new tax credit for EV purchase is a positive sign for the electric vehicle industry. The new tax credit will be effective until the end of 2023. France is preparing a $100 per month electric-car leasing plan. Meanwhile, an Australian bank will discontinue loans for new diesel vehicles. However, it plans to continue to provide loans for used cars.

Waymo’s commercial AV service exceeded ten million miles of driving in AV mode on public roads
In its first year of commercial AV service, Waymo’s vehicles have driven over five million miles on public roads. The company has been testing its technology in many settings including construction zones and interactions with pedestrians. In addition, it has learned to recognize and react to various hand signals, including those used by cyclists and traffic signalers. This has made it much easier for drivers to get around, reduce traffic density, and minimize parking needs.

In recent years, Waymo has expanded its operations into the logistics industry, partnering with FCA to build a fleet of autonomous trucks. These vehicles will use Waymo’s software platform called Waymo Driver. The partnership covers all FCA vehicles, including Ram ProMaster vans. If the merger between the two companies goes through, this deal will also cover vehicles made by Groupe PSA.
